Projects

In StiffShiftingSwoops, I created site-specific sculptures in which I adhered sheets of opaque plastic with masking tape along the perimeter of architectural features in Helmuth Projects. In doing so, I constructed opportunities to make visible, the interaction between the shifting natural light and airflow generated outdoors with the preexisting and consistent electric lights and fans inside the entire building.

With this piece (above), I taped plastic on the top perimeter of an open window that did not have glass or a mesh screen. Depending on the air circulation that was produced outdoors and indoors, the plastic had the potential to pick up wind or get sucked out of the window.

In this piece (above), I taped plastic within the perimeter of a skylight. The movement of the plastic was dictated by the electric fan and air circulation generated from the roof turbine above the skylight. When the roof turbine propelled air out of the building, it would completely suck up the sheet of plastic and the opposite would occur when it would generate air inside the building. When this would happen, the plastic would be picked up by the air generated by the electric fan that was kept in its original location within the building.
